Dr. Safyer recently testified at a Joint Legislative Hearing of the Senate Finance Committee and Assembly Ways and Means Committee.

He described Montefiore's unique role as an academic health system that provides the most advanced quaternary care to its communities in the Hudson Valley and across four counties. He also outlined how the state might address Medicaid payment inadequacy and called for reimbursement reform to improve quality, contain costs and ensure access to care. "Our goal is to work with Governor Cuomo, the Senate, the Assembly, the agencies and community-based providers and organizations to develop a national model of healthcare services that cares for all, regardless of whether or not the patient has insurance, regardless of their legal status, and regardless of their current state of health."

--Steven M. Safyer, MD, President & CEO, Montefiore Medicine
